Mr. Geoff Hutchinson Profile
Geoff was born in Warrington and went to Boteler Grammar School before going to medical school in Manchester. After registrar jobs in Booth Hall Children’s Hospital and North Manchester General, he completed his MD thesis as the Wellcome Foundation Fellow in Bristol, looking at nutrition and the immunology of colorectal cancer and colitis patients. His SR job was at the Freeman and RVI in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where he developed his endoscopy skills and uniquely had joint medical and surgical gastroenterology rounds. Surgeons, gastroenterologists, dieticians and pathologists all came along to the joint rounds. He returned to his roots in the North West as Consultant Surgeon with an interest in gastroenterology 22 years ago. In the summer of 2005 he resigned his NHS contract in order to expand his private practice at Stretton and to allow him greater flexibility with NHS contract work (which is predicted to be 20% of NHS work load).
Geoff is medical advisor for NADD (National Association for Diverticular Disease) and writes a quarterly article for the journal InContact, as well as an “agony aunt” column for patients with diverticular disease.
